Her father is gone for good—not on a business trip like her mother said—and Annie knows it. Her little brother, Gus, might believe that he’ll come back, but Annie is too sharp, too observant, to believe this comforting lie. In their little house by the shore of Lake Michigan, where everything is the same and yet not, Annie, Gus, and their dreamy, beautiful mother, Paige, are on their own. Then, to add to Annie’s confusion, her mother starts to date Shepherd, a well-meaning and steadfast man who isn’t deterred by Paige’s frequent refusals of his affections. His devotion to her mother and kindhearted interest in her and Gus aside, Annie can’t tell if letting this man into their small, odd family will be the solution to their problems or the start of new ones. Revealing the intricacies of the adult world through the simple eyes of a child, Now You Love Me is a heartbreaking yet genuinely funny story about the joys and pitfalls of growing up and growing older.
In this fresh, poignant novel (originally published under the title Far From Xanadu), Mike is struggling to come to terms with her father's suicide and her mother's detachment from the family. When a glamorous new girl, Xanadu, arrives in Mike's small Kansas town, Mike falls in love at first sight. Xanadu is everything Mike is not -- cool, confident, feminine, sexy.... straight. Julie Anne Peters has written a heartbreaking yet ultimately hopeful novel that will speak to anyone who has ever fallen in love with someone who can't love them back.

If you're reading this book, I am assuming you either directly or indirectly have been affected by abuse. Perhaps you are living in the silence as I did for over four decades. If this is the case this book is dedicated to you. I give you my sincere admonition to tell your story as many times as needed to move out of the darkness and into the light. This book is about my nine-year journey in resurrecting my soul, mending my spirit, clearing my mind and opening up my heart. May of 1996 will be forever etched as one the darkest periods of my life. I was facing my second shoplifting charge, which resulted in me hitting rock bottom. For the first time in years I reached out to God asking for a second chance in life. Promising him if he granted this I would do everything humanly possible to make this world a better place than I found it. The healing process is hard and arduous. This book depicts the ups and downs, the mass confusion of finding yourself, healing your inner child, changing your toxic belief system and finding your purpose and passions. The key to unlocking the door to my future started with a journey into the past. My motive for writing this book is to educate society on the dynamics of abuse and its lingering and cyclic nature. It is my hope that this book inspires other abuse victims to free themselves from the dreaded silence. Acknowledging the abuse is the first step in the healing process and breaking the silence opens the door to stopping abuse cycles.
